How To Install Mods in Minecraft PE

Are you looking for a way to know How To Install Mods in Minecraft PE? So you’ve been watching videos of people playing Minecraft PE with dragons, guns, or whatever crazy stuff mods add, and you’re wondering how to actually get that on your phone. Good news it’s not complicated. Bad news there’s some confusion out there because people mix up mods, addons, and texture packs like they’re the same thing. They’re not.

Real mods require special apps to work on mobile, and honestly, most of what you’ll find for Minecraft PE are actually called “addons” or “behavior packs.” But whatever, they still change your game and make it more fun. I’m gonna walk you through the whole process, the apps you need, where to download stuff safely, and how to avoid bricking your world.

Why Install Mods in Minecraft PE?

Look, vanilla Minecraft PE is fine. You can build stuff, mine, fight mobs, whatever. But after a while it gets repetitive, right? You’ve seen all the biomes, fought the same enemies a thousand times, and built every type of house you can think of. That’s where mods come in.

Mods completely change how you play. Want realistic furniture instead of using stairs and slabs? There’s a mod for that. Tired of the same boring mobs? Add dragons, dinosaurs, or whatever creature you want. Some mods add entire new dimensions to explore, new ores to mine, or machinery that automates everything. It’s like getting a whole new game without paying for anything.

Plus, mods keep the game interesting when you’re burnt out. I’ve dropped Minecraft for months, then installed some crazy mod pack and got hooked again. You can customize your experience exactly how you want it more combat, more building options, harder survival, easier gameplay, whatever fits your style. And honestly? Showing off your modded world to friends who are still playing vanilla feels pretty good. It’s your game, might as well make it exactly what you want it to be.

Step 1: Find Safe and Compatible Mods

Not all mods are safe or compatible with the latest version of MCPE. Use trusted sources to avoid issues.

Pro Tip: Always check the mod version to ensure it’s compatible with your MCPE version.

Step 2: Installing Mods on Android

Step 2: Installing Mods on Android

Android’s way easier for this than iOS, thank god. When you download a mod it usually comes as one of three things – .mcaddon, .mcpack, or .zip. The first two are brain-dead simple. Download finishes, you tap the file, Minecraft just opens by itself and imports everything. Takes like 3 seconds. You get a little popup saying import succeeded or whatever and you’re done.

Zip files are more work. You need your file manager – every Android has one built in but if yours sucks get a better one from the play store. Navigate to your phone’s internal storage, find the games folder, then com.mojang inside that. You’ll see a bunch of folders with names like behavior_packs and resource_packs. Unzip the file you downloaded. Inside there’s gonna be folders – put behavior stuff in behavior_packs, resource stuff in resource_packs. Sometimes a mod has both so you’re moving two folders. Just match the names.

After that’s done open Minecraft. Make a new world or edit one, scroll down til you see the packs sections, turn on what you just added. Behavior packs go first then resource packs – I don’t know why that matters but it does, some mods break if you do it backwards. If you don’t see your mod in the list you messed up the folders. Go back and check you didn’t put everything in the wrong place or left it zipped or something.

  • Important: Activate behavior packs first, then resource packs, or some mods won’t work right. If nothing shows up, you probably put the files in the wrong folder.

Step 3: Installing Mods on iOS

iOS is a pain because Apple doesn’t let you mess with files the same way Android does. Everything’s locked down. Your best bet is the Files app that’s already on your iPhone. Use Safari to download the mod – other browsers sometimes screw it up for some reason. File goes straight to Downloads in your Files app.

Open Files, find your downloaded mod (should be .mcaddon or .mcpack), tap it. Should pop up asking if you want to open with Minecraft. Hit yes and it imports automatically. That’s the easy way. If that doesn’t work you’re doing it manually. In Files app go to On My iPhone, then find Minecraft folder, then games, then com.mojang. Same folder structure as Android behavior_packs folder, resource_packs folder. Put your mod files in the right ones.

Some people swear by using Documents by Readdle app instead of Files because it handles downloads better. I’ve used both, they’re pretty much the same honestly. After getting files in there, open Minecraft and go to world settings to activate your packs like normal. Here’s the annoying part though iOS is super picky about what files it accepts. Sometimes a mod that says “works on mobile” actually only works on Android. If it won’t import there’s not much you can do, it’s just not compatible with iOS. Apple being Apple.

Step 4: Activating Mods in Minecraft PE

So you’ve got the files on your phone. Cool. Now you actually need to turn them on or they just sit there doing nothing. Go into Minecraft, and when you’re making a new world or editing one you already have, scroll way down past where you pick creative or survival. There’s sections that say Resource Packs and Behavior Packs – that’s what you want.

Hit Behavior Packs first. You’ll see your mod sitting in “Available” probably. Tap it, moves to “Active.” Same thing for Resource Packs if your mod needs both. Sometimes the order matters? Like if the mod page said “load this before that” then do it. Also some mods are picky and need you to flip on Experimental Gameplay switches in settings. Just turn on whatever it tells you to.

Make the world. If it’s working you’ll know pretty quick – new stuff shows up that wasn’t there. Oh and if you’re putting mods into a world you’ve been playing for a while, back it up first. Mods can mess up saves sometimes.

Step 5: Troubleshooting Common Issues

Mod’s not there when you check in-game? You probably put it in the wrong spot. Gotta be in the actual behavior_packs or resource_packs folders, not just floating around somewhere in com.mojang. Crashes when you turn the mod on? Either your Minecraft’s the wrong version for that mod, or two mods you installed hate each other. Take everything out, add one mod back, test it. Keep going til you find which one’s the problem.

“Import Failed” message? File got messed up during download. Happens. Redownload it and make sure you’re clicking the actual download link not some fake button ad thing. Mod’s kind of working but not completely? Forgot to turn on experimental stuff probably. Go back to settings, flip those switches on. Some mods need like three different experimental things enabled which is annoying but whatever.

World just won’t load anymore? A mod broke it. Delete that mod from your folders. If you backed up your world earlier, now’s when you need it. No backup? Might be screwed honestly. Still broken? Go back to wherever you downloaded it and read the comments. Usually someone else had the same problem and figured it out already.
